Mo-Im Kim Nursing Research Institute

As Korea’s first nursing research institute, the Mo-Im Kim Nursing Research Institute aspires to become a global leader in promoting a health-conscious society.

Introduction of the Research Institute

The Mo-Im Kim Nursing Research Institute was founded in 1973 as the first nursing research institute in Korea, succeeding the Nursing Policy Institute. It was established to promote people’s health and further the academic field of nursing by developing national health policies and training a nursing workforce through industry-university cooperation, and to expand the academics of nursing by establishing nursing policies through projects for supporting research funds. Since its establishment, the Mo-Im Kim Nursing Research Institute has actively carried out various projects. In 2015, the institute was given its present name to honor Professor Emeritus Mo-Im Kim, who had donated her entire wealth to the institute. It has since reinforced its dedication toward developing nursing science by conducting health-related policy development research, improving systems for the development of nursing professionals, operating international health projects, and training nursing leaders. It has also performed joint research in Korea and abroad and continues to build on its research network. To stimulate joint research within the College of Nursing, four groups form the GAINS research cluster, which aims to contribute to progress in nursing science by activating research exchanges and idea generation between professors and graduate students. Furthermore, the Mo-Im Kim Nursing Research Institute was selected as the 2020 Ministry of Education University Key Research Institute in the field of elderly health science, a first in the field of nursing. It has also been conducting various research projects on aging health science, with a focus on common health problems in the elderly, such as dementia, depression, and frailty.
