Severance Hospital’s Pulmonology Department started its history in 1920 when Prof.
F.
M.
Stites began providing medical care for respiratory diseases.
He was the first doctor in Korea who established a tuberculosis ward, introducing and managing a quarantine facility for this country.
In 1928, the Severance Anti-Tuberculosis Society, the first domestic anti-tuberculosis society, was founded by the University staff, students, and graduates, contributing to the facilitation of medical care for respiratory diseases centering around tuberculosis.
Our Pulmonology Department continued in its history of development to finally open the Lung Cancer Clinic in 2005.
The Lung Cancer Clinic composed of the Pulmonology Department, Oncology, Thoracic Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Medical Imaging, and Pathology Departments provides specialized medical care for lung cancer with specialized professors handling ICU-specific treatments.
Severance Hospital’s Pulmonology Department performs more than half of all lung transplantation operations in Korea, and is recognized for its best team of medical staff.
We will always strive to provide the best medical service to our patients.
